The Korean War
In 1950, the Cold War erupted into flames as the Korean War began. This bloody and brutal struggle left millions of North and South Koreans dead and the United Nations forces involved with over 100,000 casualties. The dividing line between the two countries is called the 38th parallel. It is a longitudinal line north of the equator. The line divides the two hostile countries. The Korean War began on June 25, 1950, when North Korea, aided by the Soviet Union, crossed over the 38th parallel into South Korea.
