THe Korean war before US involvement
When the Korean War began, the UN was only 5 years old. Even with their help. the North Koreans were heavily outnumbered by the strong North Korean and Soviet armies. It was born in the days after World War ll, when people believed in a world full of peace and prosperity. However, the UN's effectiveness was hampered by the Cold War. The Soviet UNion and North Korea both rejected their permanent seats on the UN Security Board. Their only power was in the number of men, which failed in comparison to the enemy army. Before the US involvement, The North Koreans had a huge advantage over the South Koreans. The decision was now with President Harry S. Truman and the United States. The President was delighted with the strongly worded declaration that emerged from the UN. The declaration gave him authority to send American troops to Korea if the North Korean army refused to withdraw their troops. Reports from Korea indicated that the North Koreans were moving aggressively towards the 38th Parallel. Therefore, Truman ordered the US Military to go to Korea and fight with the South Koreans. The President said in a news conference, "The members of the UN are going to the relief of the Korean Republic, to suppress a bandit raid."
